The Park is in the south-central part of the state, close to Lynchburg. The Visitor Center is three miles northeast of Appomattox on Highway VA 24.

Open year round. Peak visitor month is July. Climate: Winter, 32 to 52 degrees F, cool and humid; Summer, 85 to 92 degrees F, warm and humid.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Here on April 9, 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Confederacy's most successful field army to Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, finally ending the long and bitter Civil War.
The Courthouse, where the surrender took place, and village have been restored. Walking tours, history talks, and interpretive exhibits are available for the visitor. Picnic and camping facilities are nearby. Food, supplies, and overnight accommodations are available in Appomattox.
